Recommended Changes to Personnel Ordinance <br />Add clarification that elected positions do not earn vacation leave accrual to Article VI. Leave of <br />Absence, Section 4. Vacation Leave. <br />Section 4. Vacation Leave <br />All regular and probationary employees who are scheduled to work at least 1,000 hours during the <br />calendar year shall receive vacation leave in accordance with this policy. Vacation leave may be used at <br />the employee's discretion with prior approval of the employee's immediate supervisor or department <br />head. Elected positions are not subject to this section and do not earn vacation leave. <br />Add new accrual chart to Section 9 to enhance the sick leave benefit provided for elected full time <br />position. <br />Section 9. Sick Leave - Manner of Accrual <br />Anniversary date of employment shall be used for determining sick leave. For the purpose of calculating <br />sick leave, the basic work week shall be 40 hours. Each regular and probationary employee scheduled to <br />work at least 1,000 hours during the calendar year shall be credited sick leave at the rate of 3 hours, 41 <br />minutes and 32 seconds for each completed bi- weekly pay period, or 95 hours, 59 minutes and 52 <br />seconds for each completed year (52 weeks) of service. <br />Emergency Medical Service 24/48 personnel shall be credited sick leave at the rate of 5 hours, 9 minutes <br />and 13 seconds for each completed bi- weekly pay period, or 133 hours, 59 minutes and 13 seconds for <br />each completed year (52 weeks) of service. Law enforcement officers working a 12 hour shift schedule <br />shall be credited sick leave at the rate of 3 hours, 52 minutes, and 36 seconds for each completed <br />biweekly pay period, or 100 hours, 47 minutes, and 51 seconds for each completed year (52 weeks) of <br />service. These employees shall be charged on an hour for hour basis for sick leave taken. <br />Elected Officials serving in full time positions will be granted sick leave according to the following <br />schedule: <br />Years of Aggregate Service <br />Hours Earned Bi- Weekly <br />Leave Earned Yearly <br />Less than 5 years <br />4 hours <br />104 hours <br />5 but less than 10 years <br />6 hours <br />156 hours <br />10 but less than 15 years <br />8 hours <br />208 hours <br />15 but less than 20 years <br />10 hours <br />260 hours <br />20 years or more <br />12 hours <br />312 hours <br />Sick leave credited to regular and probationary employees scheduled to work at least 1,000 hours during <br />the calendar year but fewer hours than the basic work week shall be determined in accordance with the <br />formula set forth in Section 15 of this Article. <br />Attachment number 1 <br />F -5 Page 81 <br />
