CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />APRIL 20, 2015 <br />6:30 P.M. <br />AGENDA CATEGORY: <br />Recognitions and Presentations <br />SUBJECT: <br />Planning and Development - Soil and Water Conservation District - <br />Recognition of Regional Winners in Conservation Education Contests <br />BRIEF SUMMARY: <br />Cabarrus Soil and Water Conservation District has a robust conservation <br />education program that reaches over 3,000 students each year by <br />integrating stewardship of natural resources into the curriculum of private <br />and public schools. This outreach effort is the result of relationships and a <br />reputation built over a period of 50 years that the conservation district has <br />existed as a single- county conservation district. <br />The 2014 -2015 topic for conservation education contests sponsored by <br />the North Carolina Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts is <br />"Wetlands are Wonderful!" All local contestants placed in the March <br />regional contests and 19 students qualified to proceed to the state level. <br />REQUESTED ACTION: <br />Recognize Dennis Testerman and Hannah Hursey to announce <br />contestants. <br />Congratulate contestants on their achievements and acknowledge family <br />members and school personnel for their support. <br />EXPECTED LENGTH OF PRESENTATION: <br />5 Minutes <br />C -6 Page 30 <br />
