CABARRUS COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
REGULAR MEETING
AUGUST 17, 2015
6:30 P.M.
AGENDA CATEGORY:
New Business
SUBJECT:
Planning and Development - Proposed Adoption of the Town of
Harrisburg Comprehensive Bicycle, Pedestrian and Greenway Master
Plan - Public Hearing 6:30 P.M.
BRIEF SUMMARY:
In 2010, Cabarrus County and the Town of Harrisburg partnered to update
the Harrisburg Area Land Use Plan ( HALUP). The updated plan was
completed in the fall and adopted by Cabarrus County in December of
2010 and by the Town of Harrisburg in early 2011. As part of that plan, a
conceptual Transportation Network Map was created that included
alternate transportation routes, such as greenways, bicycle routes and
multi -use trails.
In spring of 2015, the Town of Harrisburg hired a consulting firm to assess
the existing and proposed alternate transportation routes that were
contemplated during the HALUP process. The Town asked Cabarrus
County staff to participate in the process and to serve on the Steering
Committee. Planning and Active Living and Parks staff were both given
seats on the Committee. A memo that further outlines the process is
attached for your reference.
The supplemental alternate transportation plan was adopted by the Town
of Harrisburg on June 8, 2015.
Staff is requesting that the Board of Commissioners consider adopting the
Town of Harrisburg Comprehensive Bicycle, Pedestrian and Greenway
Master Plan as a supplement to the Harrisburg Area Land Use Plan that
was adopted in 2010.
G -3 Page 264
