District conservation planning is <br />maintained by the District, along <br />partners. Financial and technical <br />conservation technical standards <br />Conservation Service. <br />based on natural resource inventories <br />with its state and federal conservation <br />conservation assistance is guided by <br />set by the federal Natural Resources <br />The District offers environmental stewardship expertise to conserve <br />natural resources on private and publicly owned land in both the <br />incorporated and unincorporated areas of the county. The conservation <br />planning process is voluntary and locally led. <br />Extensive conservation education programs are offered to youth and adult <br />learners, including a public speaking contest, which is in its 46th year. <br />Winners in this contest, as well as in the poster contest and Envirothon <br />competition, advanced to represent the District at state -level competitions <br />during the period covered by the nomination. <br />REQUESTED ACTION: <br />Recognize Cabarrus Soil and Water Conservation District as the recipient <br />of the 2014 Conservation Technical District of the Year award from the <br />North Carolina Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts. <br />Recognize Conservation District Manager Dennis Testerman and District <br />Board Chairwoman Vicky Porter for introductions of staff and board <br />members and comments on award criteria and District accomplishments. <br />EXPECTED LENGTH OF PRESENTATION: <br />5 Minutes <br />SUBMITTED BY: <br />Dennis Testerman, Manager /Senior Resource Conservation Specialist <br />BUDGET AMENDMENT REQUIRED: <br />No <br />COUNTY MANAGER'S RECOMMENDATIONS /COMMENTS: <br />This item was approved by the Board for inclusion on the Agenda. <br />C -1 Page 55 <br />
