J ►` <br />■ V C abarrus <br />AFC ounty Schools <br />► <br />CABARRUS COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION <br />RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF BOND REFERENDUM <br />WHEREAS, the enrollment of the Cabarrus County Schools continues to increase <br />and now exceeds 30,000 students; <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County is obligated to provide adequate school facilities for <br />Cabarrus County residents by providing funding for constructing new, expanding or <br />renovating various school buildings and facilities in Cabarrus County; <br />WHEREAS, adequate school facilities are not now available in Cabarrus County; <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County Schools has currently identified constructing, <br />expanding, renovating and repair needs that exceed $250 million and continue to grow. It is <br />necessary to provide funding for the most immediate needs in Cabarrus County as addressed <br />in this resolution; <br />WHEREAS, it is necessary to provide additional school facilities by constructing, <br />expanding and renovating various school buildings and facilities in Cabarrus County; <br />WHEREAS, Mount Pleasant Middle School is badly deteriorated and a replacement <br />needs to be built; <br />WIIEREAS, portions of Royal Oaks Elementary School, Coltrane Webb Elementary <br />School, Central Cabarrus High School, and the Glenn Center (old Concord High School) are <br />badly deteriorated; <br />WHEREAS, a number of schools throughout the County are in need of renovation and <br />repair; <br />WIJERREAS, a bond referendum is an appropriate way to finance these projects; and <br />WHEREAS, the Cabarrus County Board of Education wishes to join hands with the <br />Cabarrus Board of County Commissioners in presenting a bond referendum to the public <br />which will address these critical capital needs. <br />
