Creating <br />Kannapolis City Schools <br />uture <br />100 DENVER STREET <br />KANNAP ©Lis, NC 28083 <br />CS 704 <br />-938 -1131 FAX. 704-933-6370 <br />www.kannapo1is.k12.nc.us <br />KANNAPOLIS CITY SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION <br />RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF BOND REFERENDUM <br />WHEREAS, the enrollment of the Kannapolis City Schools continues to increase and <br />now exceeds 5,000 students; <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County is obligated to provide adequate school facilities for <br />Kannapolis City residents by providing funding for constructing new, expanding or <br />renovating various school buildings and facilities in Kannapolis City; <br />WHEREAS, adequate school facilities are not now available in Kannapolis City; <br />WHEREAS, Kannapolis City Schools has currently identified constructing, expanding, <br />renovating and repair needs that exceed $30 million and continue to grow. It is necessary <br />to provide funding for the most 'immediate needs in Kannapolis City as addressed in this <br />resolution; <br />WHEREAS, it is necessary to provide additional school facilities by constructing, <br />expanding and renovating various school buildings and facilities in Kannapolis City; <br />WHEREAS, it is necessary to construct a new Middle School to ease the <br />overcrowding at the Elementary level; <br />WHEREAS, portions of A.L. Brown High School are badly deteriorated and need to <br />be renovated; <br />WHEREAS, Woodrow Wilson Elementary and Jackson Park Elementary do not have <br />adequate gym facilities and are in need of renovation; <br />WHEREAS, system wide parking lots are deteriorated and in need of repair; <br />WHEREAS, estimated cost of these projects is $31,135,000.00; <br />WHEREAS, a bond referendum is an appropriate way to finance these projects; and <br />Attachment number 2 <br />G -1 Page 51 <br />
