1792 -� <br />f <br />I! <br />MEMORIAL DAY 2014 PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, across this great country, America will join on May 26, 2014 to honor her <br />fallen heroes of the Armed Forces; and <br />WHEREAS, Memorial Day was first proclaimed a national holiday in 1868 to pay homage <br />to those who answered the call to defend the principles on which our nation was founded; and <br />WHEREAS, throughout the course of generations, both at home and on foreign soil, men <br />and women in uniform have sacrificed for the promise of freedom, the preservation of our <br />values and the ideals of democracy; and <br />WHEREAS, men and women in uniform have paid for our Liberty with their lives, we <br />hold in remembrance their selflessness with deepest honor and respect and are indebted to <br />their memories for the valiant and honorable path of service they followed; and <br />WHERAS, we share in the sorrow with and express our support to the families who also <br />sacrificed greatly for their fellow citizens as they gave up their sons and daughters to serve our <br />country and to search for a day when peace will abound. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br />do hereby proclaim Memorial Day, May 26, 2014 in recognition of the men and women in <br />uniform who have made the supreme sacrifice and further urge all citizens to pause for a <br />moment of silence at noon on May 26, 2014 to honor and to reflect on the memory of our <br />fallen heroes of the Armed Forces. <br />Adopted this the 19 day of May, 2014. <br />Elizabeth F.
