KANNAPOLIS CITY SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION <br />RESOLUTION <br />WHEREAS, Kannapolis City Schools has a pressing need for a new Middle School; and <br />WHEREAS, by Resolution in Support of Bond Referendum dated February 10, 2014, the <br />Kannapolis City Schools Board of Education unanimously requested that the Cabarrus County <br />Board of Commissioners place a bond referendum on the November 2014 ballot, to include <br />$31,135,000 for five identified projects including the new Middle School; and <br />WHEREAS, on March 17, 2014, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners passed a <br />motion which included the following language: <br />"As part of this motion, we are agreeing to provide short term financing of up to <br />$23 million to Kannapolis City Schools in FY 2015 for a term not to exceed 5 <br />years for its middle school provided that KCS withdraw its Resolution in Support <br />of Bond Referendum by May 31 ". If KCS does make such withdrawal, no other <br />project will be added to the bond project list and the total amount of the bond will <br />be reduced by $23 million." <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Education still considers all five projects listed in its <br />Resolution in Support of Bond Referendum to be critical needs; and <br />WHEREAS, the new Middle School was identified as the highest priority item and is by <br />far the largest item on the Board of Education's Resolution in Support of Bond Referendum, and <br />the Board of Coin missioners' motion passed March 17, 2014, would provide immediate and sure <br />funding for the new Middle School during the upcoming 2014 -15 fiscal year; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the Kannapolis City Schools Board of Education resolves: <br />1. To accept the offer of the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners to provide funds <br />to Kannapolis City Schools in fiscal year 2014 -15 for a new Middle School up to the <br />amount of $23 million; and in reliance thereon, <br />2.
