Elizabeth "Liz" Poole
July 2, 2014
With much thought, careful planning and input from groups such as the American Legion
and the VFW, Veterans Park was designed to honor every conflict America has fought.
This was a deliberate decision with the full support of the leadership of these veterans
groups. This park is meant to represent every man and woman of all branches of the
military and from all conflicts.
More practically, naming another park located inside the City of Kannapolis as another
"veterans park" will cause significant confusion amongst the residents of Kannapolis and
Cabarrus County and to those who are visiting our City and County. Also, unlike our
recently renovated Veterans Park, we are not aware of anything existing (or planned) at
North Cabarrus Park that would specifically honor those veterans for whom the Park is
proposed to be renamed to honor. We feel there is a bit of a disconnection in that regard,
We believe there are other ways to specifically honor the service of Vietnam War
veterans than to rename this park. We would support those efforts without reservation.
In summary, we are opposed to renaming North Cabarrus Park without input and more
careful deliberation from our City Council. We look forward to hearing from you
regarding this matter. We will be happy to meet to discuss the issue further.
Thank you in advance for your thoughtful consideration of our concerns.
Sincerely,
Milton D.
