AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 46 OF <br />THE CABARRUS COUNTY CODE OF ORDINANCES <br />WHEREAS, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners is authorized from time to <br />time to amend the Cabarrus County Code of Ordinances. <br />WHEREAS, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners recognizes the need to amend <br />and add to the Cabarrus County Code of Ordinances and hereby adopts the following <br />changes to the Code. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners, after due consideration and in the best interest of its citizens and <br />property of the County, that: <br />Sec. 46 -4. - Possession of weapons on county property: exceptions. <br />(a) Except as provided in subsection (d) and (e) below, all persons are <br />prohibited from possessing any weapon as defined in N.C. Gen. Stat. § 14- 269(a) <br />in or upon any building or property owned or controlled by the County. <br />(b) The County Manager is directed to post appropriate signage at each <br />recreational facility (as defined below) and on each building or portion of a <br />building now or hereafter owned, leased as lessee, operated, occupied, managed <br />or controlled by the County, as well as appurtenant premises to such buildings, <br />indicating that possession of weapons is prohibited there. <br />(c) The signs shall be visibly posed on the exterior of each entrance by which <br />the general public can access the building or appurtenant premises or recreational <br />facility. The County Manager shall exercise discretion in determining the <br />necessity and appropriate location for other signs posted in the interior of the <br />building and recreational facility. <br />(d) This section shall not apply to those County buildings and property in <br />which persons are lawfully permitted to possess and carry a concealed handgun <br />pursuant to N.C. Gen. Stat. § 14 -269 et seq. <br />(e) Notwithstanding subsection (d) above, all persons are prohibited from <br />possessing any weapon at the following County recreational facilities in <br />accordance with N.C. Gen. Stat. § 14- 415.23: <br />Athletic Fields: <br />The soccer complex at Frank Liske Park, including all concession stands, <br />bathrooms and other facilities directly part of the complex, but only during <br />an organized athletic event scheduled with the County. <br />G -1 Page 113 <br />
