ARTICLE V (Cont.) <br />shall be staggered and that regular members shall not serve more than six <br />consecutive years. Time served as an alternate member prior to the <br />appointment, as a regular member does not count as a part of the six <br />consecutive years of service. The preferred length of terms is three years, <br />with terms staggered such that appointments are made each year. With <br />three -year terms, an individual would normally serve a maximum of two <br />terms. An individual whose initial appointment was to fill an unexpired <br />term shall be eligible to serve the number of full - length terms other <br />members are eligible to serve unless prior to the time for reappointment <br />that individual has already served six consecutive years. <br />Section 5. It is understood that County employees will not be appointed to Councils, <br />commissions, etc. which receive County funding assistance. <br />Section 6. Any member may resign from the Commission by submitting a written <br />resignation to the Chairman or the Active Living and Parks Director. <br />Section 7. The Council of County Commissioners shall appoint a replacement to fill <br />the unexpired term of any vacancy created. <br />Section 8. No member shall be related to any employee of the Active Living and <br />Parks Department in accordance with Article V. Section 5, Limitation of <br />Employment of Relatives of the Cabarrus County Personnel Ordinance. <br />No member, directly or indirectly, individually or through any entity, shall <br />contract with or provide services for compensation with the Active Living <br />and Parks Department. <br />Section 9. The general policy of the Council of Commissioners shall limit <br />membership of an individual to one official governmental Council. The <br />Commissioners, however, reserve the right to appoint an individual to <br />more than one Council under special circumstances. A person serving on <br />a Council and receiving an appointment to a second Council shall <br />automatically be removed from the first Council, unless the County <br />Commissioners find evidence of special circumstances to justify service <br />on two Councils. However, the dual membership provision will not apply <br />to the following: (1) appointments to regional /area Councils;(2) <br />appointments made of a member of a Council in order for that person to <br />represent that Council's interest on a second Council; and (3) <br />appointments made to a Council by other members of the Council <br />pursuant to State Law or Local Act establishing the Council. <br />Section 10.
