CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />DECEMBER 16, 2013 <br />1 <br />AGENDA CATEGORY: <br />Consent Agenda <br />SUBJECT: <br />Sheriff - Approval of the Trade -in /Surplus of Duty Weapons <br />BRIEF SUMMARY: <br />The Sheriff's Office is requesting to trade -in 140 older Sig Sauer P226 .40 <br />caliber handguns in exchange for brand new Sig Sauer P226 .40 caliber <br />handguns. Lawmen's, a state contract vendor for firearms, has extended <br />this trade -in offer to the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office. Lawmen's is <br />offering to give the Sheriff's Office $400 per handgun, with the new <br />handgun costing $199.99. The regular cost of a new handgun in $599.99. <br />Most of the 140 handguns recommended for trade -in are 10 years old. <br />The total trade -in value of the 140 handguns is $56,000, an amount <br />exceeding the County Manager's $30,000 surplus limit. <br />REQUESTED ACTION: <br />Motion to approve the trade -in of 140 surplus handguns with a trade -in <br />value of $56,000 for the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office. <br />EXPECTED LENGTH OF PRESENTATION: <br />SUBMITTED BY: <br />Paul Hunt, Chief Deputy <br />BUDGET AMENDMENT REQUIRED: <br />No <br />COUNTY MANAGER'S RECOMMENDATIONS /COMMENTS: <br />F -11 Page 215 <br />
