The main two programs Parks and Recreation need action on are:
<br />• Park and Recreation Trust Fund PARTF
<br />• Recreation Trails Program RTP
<br />RTP - The Senate Committee on the Environment and Public Works has approved transportation reauthorization legislation known as MAP — 21
<br />which removes RTP's dedicated funding source (a portion of the gas tax paid by off -road vehicles). They are trying to encourage Senator Burr
<br />and Hagan to be champions and work to support RTP.
<br />PARTF funding has been jeopardized for the last 3 years. There is another play to get some of the money for a new GIS bill. The trust fund is
<br />supported
<br />by the state's tax on real estate deed transfers.
<br />The PARTF program provides dollar- for - dollar grants to local governments. Recipients use the grants to acquire land and /or to
<br />develop parks and recreational projects that serve the general public.
