ACCESS CONT'D. <br />2. Site layout should provide safe access to the existing <br />road network and minimize congestion issues. School <br />buildings, parking areas, and circulation routes should be <br />designed to give priority to the pedestrian and bicyclist <br />to promote a safe campus. Site layouts should depict <br />safe inter - connectivity from the buildings to the parking <br />and recreation areas. <br />a.Verify access points have adequately designed <br />horizontal and vertical intersections that provide <br />appropriate sight distances for ingress and egress <br />to site. <br />b. Utilize existing intersection alignments <br />to access the school facility. Give special <br />consideration to utilizing those intersections with <br />existing traffic control devices. <br />c. Site should be accessed by at least two <br />access points <br />d. One access point should be designed for buses <br />and large delivery vehicles, and a second <br />separate access point should be designed for <br />smaller vehicles driven by visitors, parents, and <br />staff. Internal connections should allow <br />for redirection of all traffic in the event of <br />an emergency. <br />e. At least one access point should accommo <br />date deliveries by large tractor trailers. <br />f. Site should be easily accessible for fire, EMS, <br />and police services. <br />3. Parking /Loading <br />a. Staff /Visitor parking areas should be separate <br />from bus and student parking. <br />b. Bus parking should be designed to minimize <br />adverse impacts (visual, noise and smell <br />from fumes during idling, viewsheds, etc.) <br />to school and adjacent land uses. Avoid parking <br />buses (other than during loading times) in front of <br />school. <br />c.
