Cabarrus Literacy Council <br />Strategic Plan <br />Adopted April 17, 2012 <br />The goals of the adult basic literacy program for 2012 -2013 are: <br />1. To promote public awareness of the need for literacy education in Concord, <br />Harrisburg, Kannapolis, Mount Pleasant and Midland. <br />(a) Create and distribute quarterly newsletter to the community, including <br />statistics regarding program effectiveness, success stories from <br />students and tutors, and providing a way for interested businesses or <br />individuals to contribute financially or volunteer their time and energy to <br />further our goals. <br />(b) Enlarge electronic mail and regular mail distribution list for building <br />awareness, fund raising, publicity, training opportunities, and general <br />information. Our current list consists of over 300 contacts and this list <br />should be increased by 100 new contacts annually. <br />(c) Utilize avenues of communication available as a program in <br />partnership Cabarrus County government, including the Cabarrus <br />County Library website, newsletters and Channel 22 programs. <br />(d) Enhance use of online resources for promotion, including Facebook <br />and websites (including Cabarrus Literacy Council and Cabarrus <br />County Library pages) to promote our program and engage the <br />community in our goals. <br />(e) Enhance public awareness by speaking monthly at community group <br />meetings. <br />(f) Develop promotional /educational materials to distribute to the <br />community at large or during presentations to small groups. <br />(g) Recruit 150 new individual, corporate, or faith -based organization <br />donors for the Adult Literacy Program of the Cabarrus Literacy Council. <br />(h) Implement targeted funding program, including fundraising events, <br />targeted direct mailings, group fundraising opportunities, and pursuing <br />grant application opportunities. <br />2. To recruit students who experience challenges in basic reading and writing <br />skills and persons who speak languages other than English. Our assistance <br />will focus upon students whose reading, comprehension and /or writing skills <br />are below 8 th grade level. <br />(a) Potential students will be referred to the Literacy Council by service <br />agencies.
