Commercial, Institutional, Industrial (CIl) <br />Current: <br />All jurisdictions have taken steps to reduce in -house facilities waste generation through <br />increased use of electronic communications and other means. Only Cabarrus County provides <br />waste reduction technical assistance to schools and other CII generators in the county plan <br />area. <br />Intended Actions: <br />Cabarrus County <br />• Expand work with local businesses and industries to further their waste reduction efforts <br />• Incorporate source reduction into programs offered at schools and coordinate with <br />district to encourage more student involvement <br />6. b. Collection <br />6. b. 1. Residential <br />Cabarrus County operates under a franchise agreement with Republic Services for all residents <br />in the unincorporated county that subscribe for residential refuse collection. The franchise <br />agreement expires on December 2012. Discussions are on -going at this writing on the merits <br />of renewing the franchise or going out to bid for a new five year contract. Alternatively, <br />containers for municipal solid waste (MSW) disposal are provided for self -haul at the County's <br />convenience center located at the County - operated C &D landfill site. <br />Collection frequencies, providers, and methods vary among the municipal jurisdictions, but there <br />are some similarities. Republic Services, in addition to being under contract with the County <br />also serves Midland and Harrisburg for solid waste collection. Midland is finalizing a bid <br />process at this time to choose a collector for the next five years. Harrisburg will be going out to <br />bid some time later this year, as their contract expires July 2013. <br />18 <br />Attachment number 2 <br />F -7 Page 149 <br />
