Cabarrus County Solid Waste Management Plan 2012- <br />2022 <br />• Resource Roundup, the quarterly newsletter developed by the County on waste <br />reduction and recycling, is available to residents electronically by subscription through <br />the County web site, as well as convenience centers, County governmental center, <br />libraries, and some local businesses. <br />• The County routinely provides information for residents on the local government public <br />access television channel. <br />• Special events such as the County Fair and Viva Verde Earth Fest provide an additional <br />platform for the distribution of educational information on waste reduction and recycling <br />Surveys are utilized at special events on HHW collection days to gauge community <br />effectiveness and participation. <br />• Educational information on recycling is provided through school and organizational <br />presentations. County staff is available to speak to schools, civic groups, neighborhood <br />associations about solid waste and recycling issues. <br />® Staff members welcome the opportunity to participate in school science fairs, career <br />days, and other events. In addition, they advise Girl and Boy Scouts working on <br />environmental badges and projects. <br />City of Kannapolis --- <br />• Provides residents with waste reduction and recycling information through the <br />distribution of pamphlets, newspaper articles, mass mailings, and utility bills. <br />The City has a Community Outreach Coordinator who speaks at community meetings <br />and other events upon request. In addition, an Environmental Stewardship Committee <br />was established in the spring of 2008 to assist with curbside recycling and other <br />environmental issues. <br />Town of Harrisburg— <br />• Provides recycling information to residents on their water utility bill. <br />• Provides new resident packet of information on recycling. <br />Town of Midland— <br />Produces a quarterly newsletter that provides residents information on refuse collection <br />and recycling. <br />29 <br />Attachment number 2 <br />F -7 Page 160 <br />
