NORTH CAROLINA <br />CABARRUS COUNTY <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, reading is a joy for all ages which allows young and old to come together in <br />discussion on a variety of topics; and <br />WHEREAS, every community has special traits that makes it unique. These traits develop over <br />time and are woven into the fabric of its citizens' daily lives. In many ways, our community defines who <br />we are; and <br />WHEREAS, every community comes together through shared history, shared knowledge, and <br />shared experiences. As our community grows and changes, it can become more difficult to maintain <br />and to honor the traits that are unique and special; and <br />WHEREAS, the Cabarrus County Public Library and the Cabarrus County Active Living and Parks <br />Department have partnered with the public libraries, parks departments, community colleges and <br />others in Rowan, Stanly and Union Counties to form one community for the 411 — 4 DISTRICTS, 1 BOOK, <br />1 COMMUNITY project; and <br />WHEREAS, 411— 4 DISTRICTS, 1 BOOK, 1 COMMUNITY is one way to bring together each diverse <br />individual in Cabarrus, Rowan, Stanly and Union Counties to share an experience together - the <br />experience of reading the same novel. This collective experience not only encourages literacy; it also <br />encourages dialogue and the expression of thoughts and ideas among individuals who may not <br />otherwise find a connection; and <br />WHEREAS, the months of August, September and October, 2012 have been selected for the 411 <br />— 4 DISTRICTS, 1 BOOK, 1 COMMUNITY project; and <br />WHEREAS, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins has been selected for this year's 411 — 4 <br />DISTRICTS, 1 BOOK, 1 COMMUNITY project; and <br />WHEREAS, in celebration of the 411 — 4 DISTRICTS, 1 BOOK, 1 COMMUNITY project created <br />many ways to come together and participate throughout August, September and October by <br />participating in book discussions, entering contests, participating in Survival Training Days and the Final <br />Event at the Arena, and many other events. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners declare the months of August, <br />September and October as 411 — 4 DISTRICTS, 1 BOOK, 1 COMMUNITY Months in Cabarrus County and <br />commend its observance to all citizens. <br />ADOPTED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS of Cabarrus County, North Carolina this the 20 <br />day of August, 2012. <br />r 1792 <br />Elizabeth F.
