CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />`* 1 <br />1 OCTOBER 15, 2012 <br />1 <br />1 <br />AGENDA CATEGORY: <br />Consent Agenda <br />SUBJECT: <br />Planning and Development - Application for Federal Matching Funds to <br />Purchase Conservation Easement <br />BRIEF SUMMARY: <br />The Farm and Ranchlands Protection Program is a federal program <br />administered by the Natural Resources Conservation Service in the US <br />Dept. of Agriculture. The Cabarrus Soil and Water Conservation District <br />intends to apply for $179,200 based on an equal match. The match <br />consists of $89,600 in the state contract and $89,600 in value provided by <br />the Barriers. These funds will be used to purchase development rights <br />and place a permanent agricultural conservation easement on 35.4 acres <br />of farmland owned by Dan Barrier. Mr. Barrier will be providing a match in <br />land value equivalent to the state funds.
