Final Report Overview <br />Background <br />Every four years, North Carolina Local Health Departments are charged with <br />conducting a comprehensive assessment of the health status of their <br />citizens and the environment within which they reside. This mandatory <br />process is called a Community Health Assessment and its role is to "identify <br />factors that affect the health of a population and determine the availability <br />of resources within the county to adequately address these factors ". <br />Goal of the Cabarrus Community Needs Assessment <br />To improve the overall quality of life and health status of Cabarrus County <br />residents through the process of conducting a comprehensive Community <br />Needs Assessment. <br />Objectives of the Cabarrus Community Needs Assessment <br />• Identify emerging needs and issues <br />• Review 2008 priority needs to determine relevance <br />• Document progress made since the 2008 assessment <br />• Examine community resources <br />• Prioritize identified needs <br />LIRW <br />1 <br />Call to Action: <br />The Council calls for local businesses, <br />F organizations, policy makers, and <br />community leaders to: <br />*Review, analyze, and share the information <br />in this report; <br />*Evaluate the key issues and needs relative <br />to your own mission, focus, and strategic <br />initiatives; <br />•Incorporate strategies that address the <br />needs into your organization's action plans; <br />*Drive collaborative efforts to examine and <br />address the issues; <br />*Develop issue - specific task forces; <br />*Support collaborative action that elevates <br />Data Sources Cabarrus County and its citizens. <br />Data used for the needs assessment came from the following sources: <br />• Consumer Household Survey: Survey of 1624 consumers in the <br />county. <br />• Key Informant Survey: Input from 93 Community Key Informants. <br />• 2012 Health Resource Inventory: Inventory of resources in the county ranging from medical physicians, dentists <br />and midwives to available facilities for kidney dialysis, senior assistance, food pantries, and violence prevention <br />organizations, among others. <br />• Community Statistical Indicators for Cabarrus County: Analysis of existing data and statistics. <br />• 2012 Cabarrus County Environmental Health Assessment: Air & water quality, environmental facilities enhancing <br />quality of life. <br />2012 Key Issues and Needs: <br />• Wellness and Obesity— Focus on the prevention and treatment of adult /childhood obesity and diabetes. <br />• Housing — Increase resources /attention to provide solutions to local housing problems. <br />• Under /Unemployment— Address deficiencies to increase workforce and economic opportunities. <br />• Education — Improve overall quality across the spectrum to improve literacy, graduation rates, and access to non - traditional <br />learning opportunities <br />• Access to Healthcare— Examine and address community realities to increase access to healthcare. <br />• Mental Health — Create systems change to reduce barriers to care /examine pressing mental health issues. <br />Listed in no particular order <br />c Healthy Cabarrus <br />CABA <br />HEALTH Carolinas Medical Center <br />© ©e <br />ALLIANNCE CE �NorthEast <br />Attachment number 1 <br />1 -3 Page 270 <br />
