CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />`* 1 <br />11 NOVEMBER 19, 2012 <br />1 <br />AGENDA CATEGORY: <br />Consent Agenda <br />SUBJECT: <br />Planning & Development (Soil & Water Conservation District) - Grant <br />Proposal to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation <br />BRIEF SUMMARY: <br />Soil & Water Conservation District would like to reapply for a $250,000 <br />grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to continue ongoing <br />restoration efforts associated with the Clarke Creek Heron Rookery <br />Significant Natural Heritage Area. The grant application deadline is <br />December 3, 2012. Requested funds are for the purchase of conservation <br />easements and /or property to expand buffers on the Clarke Creek <br />Wetland Complex, as well as continued development of a conservation <br />field school. These funds would build on the restoration project underway <br />on Cox Mill Elementary School campus. Possible matching fund sources <br />include budgeted funds, deferred tax funds, additional proposed grants <br />and donations. <br />REQUESTED ACTION: <br />Motion to authorize the Soil & Water Conservation District to submit a <br />grant proposal to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation <br />EXPECTED LENGTH OF PRESENTATION: <br />SUBMITTED BY: <br />Dennis Testerman, Senior Resource Conservation Specialist <br />F -5 Page 56 <br />
