Cabarrus County Youth Council <br />Report to Commissioners <br />May 16, 2011 <br />Report Given By: <br />Alana Dean and Cameron Watson <br />The first members of the Cabarrus County Youth Council were appointed in February, 2011. <br />Thirteen of the eighteen positions are filled. The Youth Council position openings are as follows. <br />Cox Mill High School —one position <br />Concord High School —two positions <br />At- Large —two positions <br />2. The Youth Council has identified issues affecting young people in Cabarrus County. The top <br />issues include school, home, society and apathy. Each of these issues includes specific <br />examples. <br />I At each meeting the members participate in an educational activity. Thus far, the group has <br />done a budget activity, advocacy activity and played Local Government Jeopardy. These <br />educational activities help the members understand their role in local government. <br />4. The Cabarrus County Youth Council will have a banquet for families, commissioners and <br />government officials May 27. The banquet will be held at 6:00 p.m. in the barn at Frank Liske <br />Park. <br />5. The Youth Council would like to have an active role in the NCACC Annual Meeting held in <br />Concord this August. <br />6. The Cabarrus County Youth Council is working with David Baxter on a PSA that can be played <br />during announcements at each high school. The PSA will let others know what the Youth <br />Council is and be used for recruitment. <br />7. Members of the Youth Council are working on a Facebook page and website. The website will <br />be a part of the county's new website, which is to be launched May 20. <br />8. Members are getting to know one another through attending meetings, social events and <br />community service events. As the group learns more about one another, discussions will <br />become richer and the Youth Council will have a positive impact on the community. <br />Attachment number 1 <br />G -1 Page 188 <br />
