CABARRUS COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
REGULAR MEETING
MAY 16 2011
6:30 P.M.
AGENDA CATEGORY:
Appointments to Boards and Committees
SUBJECT:
Appointment - Food Policy Council (FPC)
BRIEF SUMMARY:
The Executive Committee of the Food Policy Council received staff
recommendations for the replacement of three Council membership
positions. The Executive Committee interviewed candidates and
respectfully makes the following recommendations:
• Kate Brun, Microgreen Grower, to replace Brent Barbee as a full
member.
• Mary Blakeney, retired Guidance Council with Concord P &Z
Commission experience to replace David Rhodes as a full member.
• Wade Holland, Project Manager and member of the Piedmont
Farmers Market Board of Directors to replace Shannon Johnson as
an alternate member.
Mary Blakeney serves as an alternate on the Cabarrus County Planning &
Zoning Commission. An exception to the "multiple service" provision of
the Appointment Policy is needed for Ms. Blakeney.
The "Agency Represented" designation describing initial appointments to
the Cabarrus Food Policy Council has been reorganized to represent
components of the food system instead of specific occupations. The goal
is to ensure a broad representation on the Council while allowing the
flexibility necessary for the Council to make productive membership
recommendations to the Board of Commissioners when new members are
needed. The following breakdown describes the suggested categories of
representation:
H -2 Page 241
