number is used for accessibility to public services. The local Metropolitan
Planning Organization has expanded the local bus service which creates a wide
transportation network. Connections are made to Charlotte DOT and other
transportation networks. These connections increase housing choice through
providing adequate transportation to get to employment centers, services and
medical care. The local van system also has a route that is dedicated to
employment centers. This system runs through the smaller towns in Cabarrus
County thus providing transportation to those citizens. Other methods of dealing
with are zoning and planning regulations which are forcing dense development in
areas where services already exist. Some jurisdictions provide bonus densities for
redevelopment or infill projects. One intent of these programs is to create density
in transportation corridors which will expand housing choice. Cabarrus County
will continue to support all transportation services as long as economically
feasible. Transportation staff will continue to pursue grant options that will
continue and expand if possible all services. Commerce staff will continue to
support housing development that is accessible to transportation and other
services.
341Page
Analysis of Impediments March 2011
Attachment number 1
F -1 Page 84
