1
.
MEMO
TO: Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners
FROM: Lee Snuggs, Cabarrus County E911 Address Coordinator
DATE: August 18, 2011
RE: Road Name Change Petition — Christenbury Road to Edenberry Drive
Request for a road name change of Christenbury Road to Edenberry Drive: The purpose of
this request is to facilitate the provision of adequate public safety and emergency response
services to minimize difficulty in locating properties and buildings for public service agencies and
the general public.
A comprehensive system of street and road addresses is a fundamental component of an E -911
system that uses Automatic Location Indication (A.L.I.) capacity for the benefit and protection of
the citizens of Cabarrus County.
The Cabarrus County Code of Ordinances, Chapter 62, Article 11, Section 62 -38(a) states "The
Planning, Zoning and Building Inspection Department is hereby authorized to determine the need
for road name changes and to recommend such changes to the County Commissioners."
Pursuant to N.C.G.S. 153A- 239.1, "A county may by ordinance name or rename any road within
the county and not within a city, and may pursuant to a procedure established by ordinance assign
or reassign street numbers for use on such a road."
Christenbury Road runs between Cox Mill Road and Derita Road near the Cabarrus/Mecklenburg
County border. Christenbury Road has been calculated at approximately 1520 feet. (This number
is based upon a measurement tool used in the Geographic Information System.)
The property along the western side of Christenbury Road is located in unincorporated Cabarrus
County and is owned by CHRISTENBURY FARMS INC. The Parcel Identification Number
(PIN) is 4589379651.00000000.
The property along the eastern side of Christenbury Road is located in the City of Concord and is
owned by PIEDMONT NATURAL GAS. The Parcel Identification Number (PIN) is
4589584111.00000000. (See Map Exhibits)
Christenbury Parkway is located just west of Christenbury Road. Due to the close proximity of
the road locations and nearly identical road names, this has been a confusing area for E911 first
responders to navigate.
Attachment number 3
G -2 Page 264
