W. Brian King, Certified Financial PlannerTM
51 Means Avenue, SE
Post Office Box 1643
Concord, North Carolina 28026
KING -
FINANCIAL UNEF"
CORP
A5M,. MANAGEA11 -WT & EMPLOYEE BENEFITS
Phone: 704.782.0010
Fax: 704.782.0060
Email: brian @kingfinancialcorp.com
Website: www.kingfinancialcorp.com
Mr. Mike Downs
Deputy County Manager
65 Church Street, South
Concord, North Carolina 28025
Dear Mr. Downs:
I am writing you on the behalf of the Concord Rotary Club regarding a project that we have been diligently working on to
bring a pedestrian courtyard to our Cabarrus County Seat's downtown area. We have been referring to our local community
project as "Rotary Square" and the location is on the corner of South Union Street and Corban Avenue, and lies along the path
of the popular greenway.
Members of our club's Local Projects Committee met with the Board of Commissioners at the July work session to discuss the
details of our project and to receive a `green light' to begin exerting our members' time and efforts towards this big project.
During the July work session I understand our plans were received warmly by all, and we were given some excellent feedback
along with some issues to work through during the ongoing development stage.
I am happy to report that our club has worked very hard since that summer meeting, with the affable and much - appreciated
guidance of the County's staff and commissioners to get to this point. In addition to our many meetings with County officials
and staff, our committees have met with City of Concord officials including zoning, fire, and police. We have met with many
of the downtown neighbors including St. James Lutheran Church, The Downtown Development Corporation, and citizens that
live near the site to inform them of our plans and receive feedback. We have also met with Piedmont Farmers' Market
representatives about their uses and needs for "Rotary Square ".
We are now prepared to receive an official vote from the Board of Commissioners during the October 17 Commissioners'
Meeting to move forward with "Rotary Square ". Therefore, I am respectfully asking to be added to the agenda during your
October 3 rd work session to inform, discuss, and prepare our club and our county's commissioners for the official vote we need
on October 17 There are also some details that will need to be worked through.
Because of the large scale of this service project and the work that has been done, and will be done, as club President, I must be
sure that I am leading our 124 members towards a project that is actually going to happen. Our club has arrived at the point in
this process where we cannot move forward without this most - essential vote from the Board of Commissioners to use the
property for "Rotary Square ", which is why we would like to get this done in October.
The community, and our club members are excited about this urban square and our fundraising committee stands ready to
mobilize (I am actually trying to hold them back until we work out the details and make this local service project official). I
have attached some details about the potential uses and needs for "Rotary Square" along with drawings. More complete
elevation drawings will be forwarded to you before the work session along with other details as they become available. Please
let me know if you have questions and thank you so much for your help through this process. I am learning a lot doing this and
I appreciate your staffs patience and kindness to our club to make it happen.
Kindest regards,
24.
