<br />~' <br />RESOLUTION <br />HONORING THE MEMORY AND ACHIEVEMENTS ' <br />OF <br />BRANSON COLTRANE JONES <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County lost an outstanding citizen on January 31, 2010; and , <br />WHEREAS, Branson C. Jones was a lifelong resident of Cabarrus County, and a graduate of ' <br />Concord High School in 1944, Presbyterian College in 1950 and received an Honorary Doctor of <br />Laws Degree from Pfeiffer University in 1996; and <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Jones served in World War II in the U.S. Navy Seabees from 1945 -1946; and , <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Jones was employed by Cannon Mills Company from 1949 until 1986 <br />(retirement); and from 1986 until 1990 while employed as Executive Vice President -Economic ' <br />Development and Industrial Recruiting, Mr. Jones recruited various business and industry to <br />Cabarrus County including Oiles America Corporation where he was employed from 1990 until <br />1996 as Vice President and Director and then as a Consultant; and <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Jones received numerous awards and honors such as 1960 Jaycees' Young Man <br />of the Year, 1991 Presidents Achievement Award from Cabarrus Chamber of Commerce, 1996 <br />Volunteer of the Year from Cabarrus Economic Development Commission and in 2000 was <br />named one of Cabarrus County's 100 Most Influential People over the last 100 years; and <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Jones was an active participant in many civic affairs and projects, having held ' <br />leadership roles on the boards of many organizations in the community, including but not limited <br />to, Central United Methodist Church, NorthEast Medical Center Foundation, Pfeiffer University, <br />Catawba College, Rowan Cabarrus Community College, Presbyterian College, Barber-Scotia <br />College, and City of Concord Planning and Zoning Board; and ' <br />WHEREAS, Mr. Jones contributed greatly to the growth and progress of Cabarrus County and <br />earned the respect and affection of everyone who was privileged to know him; and ' <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br />do hereby pay tribute to ' <br />Branson Coltrane Jones <br />a valued citizen who worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life in Concord, Cabarrus County ' <br />and beyond. We call upon all citizens of Cabarrus County to remember the extraordinary <br />contributions he made in this community. <br />Adopted this the 15`t' day of February, 2010. ' <br />H.
