CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />APRIL 19, 2010 <br />6:30 P.M. <br />AGENDA CATEGORY: <br />New Business <br />SUBJECT: <br />County Manager -Creation of Food Policy Council <br />BRIEF SUMMARY: <br />The BOC has previously established a sustainable community initiative as <br />a step in realizing its vision and achieving its goals. One element of the <br />sustainable community initiative is the creation of a food policy council <br />(FPC) to identify and strengthen the connections between food, health, <br />natural resource protection, economic development and the agricultural <br />community. The FPC is charged with performing research, educating the <br />community, developing strategies and making policy recommendations <br />that will encourage the development of a robust, sustainable local food <br />economy and a healthier population.
