Resolution Establishing the Cabarrus County Food Policy Council <br />and Approval of the Council's Written Guidelines <br />Whereas, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners (BOC) has a vision of Cabarrus as a <br />county in which our children learn, our citizens participate, our dreams matter, our families and <br />neighbors thrive, and our community prospers; and <br />Whereas, the Board of Commissioners established a goal in 2007 to preserve and enhance the <br />quality of life by addressing growth; and <br />Whereas, the Board has previously established a sustainable community initiative as a step <br />in realizing its vision and achieving its goals; and <br />Whereas, one element of the sustainable community initiative is the creation of a food policy <br />council (FPC) to identify and strengthen the connections between food, health, natural resource <br />protection, economic development and the agricultural community; and <br />Whereas, the FPC is charged with performing research, educating the community, developing <br />strategies and making policy recommendations that will encourage the development of a <br />robust, sustainable local food economy and a healthier population; and <br />Whereas, written guidelines were developed to guide the FPC through its journey; and <br />Whereas, the guidelines are identified as Exhibit A and address the following areas: charge, <br />membership, tasks/meetings, and duties of officers; <br />Now, therefore be it resolved that the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners hereby <br />establishes the Cabarrus County Food Policy Council and approve the Council's written <br />guidelines as found in Exhibit A. <br />Adopted this the 19th day of April, 2010. <br />H.
