A RESOLUTION BY CABARRUS COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA IN SUPPORT OF <br />THE CITIES OF CONCORD AND KANNAPOLIS, NORTH CAROLINA BID TO BE <br />SELECTED AS A GOOGLE "FIBER FOR COMMUNITIES" PARTNER <br />WHEREAS: Google recently announced plans to test ultra-high speed broadband <br />networks in one or more trial location across the country, and seeks submittals from <br />interested local governments by March 26, 2010; and <br />WHEREAS: Local businesses, organizations, and individuals have offered their <br />support to the cities of Concord and Kannapolis to become involved in the project; and <br />WHEREAS: Ultra-high speed Internet service could create tremendous benefits <br />for the Concord/Kannapolis area of Cabarrus County including the opportunity for <br />economic development and job creation by providing the increased technology capacity <br />this would provide; and <br />WHEREAS: The technology would bring Cabarrus County Schools and the <br />Kannapolis City Schools greater educational opportunities to all our students; and <br />WHEREAS: The access the ultra-high speed system would provide the North <br />Carolina Research Campus access to centers around the globe in a manner required for <br />collaboration and research: and <br />WHEREAS: The citizens of the area have voiced their support of the application. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF <br />COMMISSIONERS OF CABARRUS COUNTY THAT CABARRUS COUNTY WILL: <br />Enthusiastically support the Cities of Concord and Kannapolis in their application <br />to be selected as the Google "Fiber for Communities" project site. <br />Adopted this the 19`h day of April, 2010. <br />H.
