PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, Gilmore Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church was founded in 1910 under the <br />leadership of the Reverend Daniel Graham Gilmore and some loyal <br />Zionites who saw the need for a church in the growing Shankletown- <br />Sidestown Community; and <br />WHEREAS, Court records show that land was purchased in 1910 from Mr. W.E. <br />Calloway. The new church was a small, white, wooden structure that was <br />built at the church's present site on Central Drive; and <br />WHEREAS, Gilmore Chapel has served as a beacon light in the Shankletown- <br />Sidestown Community for one hundred years; and <br />WHEREAS, for many years the church has been involved in numerous community <br />ministries and has hosted numerous community sponsored programs and <br />activities; and <br />WHEREAS, the church will host the Sunday School Convention, District Conference, <br />and First Missionary Mass Meeting this year (2010); and <br />WHEREAS, one hundred years in service to God and the community, working under <br />the Theme: "Celebrating 100 Years: Walking in God's Favor", the church <br />has planned a series of activities leading up to the Sunday, May 23, 2010 <br />Anniversary Celebration; <br />THEREFORE, I H. Jay White, Sr., Chairman of the Cabarrus County Board of <br />Commissioners, do hereby proclaim May 23, 2010, as <br />GILMORE CHAPEL A.M.E. ZION CHURCH <br />CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY DAY <br />throughout Cabarrus County and encourage everyone to celebrate the many <br />contributions and rich history of the church and its congregation. <br />H.
