CABARRUS COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
REGULAR MEETING
MAY 17, 2010
6:30 P.M.
AGENDA CATEGORY:
New Business
SUBJECT:
Fire Marshal's Office -Approval of
Enochville, and Kannapolis Rural Fir
Hearing on May 17, 2010 - 6:30 P.M.
BRIEF SUMMARY:
Proposed Changes to the Odell,
e Districts and Request for Public
Prior inspections conducted by the Office of the State Fire Marshal,
identified areas within districts beyond the five (5) and six (6) miles
perimeters, which forced some fire departments to build additional
stations in order to provide adequate fire protection. With these new and
existing stations, Cabarrus County can now provide fire protection
coverage to the current Enochville Fire District. At its March 2010
meeting, the Board took certain action to end its contractual arrangement
with the Enochville VFD for fire protection services in the Enochville fire
tax district. Consequently, the current Enochville Fire District will be
divided between the Odell and Kannapolis fire districts as indicated on the
following maps, which meet the requirements of the Department of
Insurance and were recently approved by the Office of the State Fire
Marshal. Session Law 2006-1 requires that a public hearing be held to
receive comments on the proposed map changes.
Currently, the written descriptions of the fire district boundaries are
currently found in Article III, Special Acts, of the Cabarrus County Code of
Ordinances. Some, if not all of the written descriptions are out-of-
date. Staff recommends these maps be moved to Chapter 34 of the
County's Code of Ordinances for easier location and accessibility.
The following ordinance replaces the written description with a GIS
(Geographic Information System) tax parcel generated color map. These
maps will be codified and will be available for public inspection via the
G-1 Page 72
