CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />JUNE 21, 2010 <br />6:30 P.M. <br />AGENDA CATEGORY: <br />Consent Agenda <br />SUBJECT: <br />Solid Waste Management -Scrap Tire Disposal Contract with US Tire <br />Recycling <br />BRIEF SUMMARY: <br />Pursuant to NCGS 130-A-309.58, Cabarrus County is required to dispose <br />of used/scrap tires at a State approved disposal facility. US Tire Recycling <br />meets all requirements of the State regulations and is located within <br />Cabarrus County. The Solid Waste Department requests that US Tire <br />Recycling continue to be designated as the county disposal facility for <br />used/scrap tires and that the Board of Commissioners approve the <br />renewal of the three (3) year contract in the amount up to $435,000. This <br />service is funded through a revenue distribution from the State Scrap Tire <br />Tax Program and is included in the FY 2010-11 budget. <br />REQUESTED ACTION: <br />Motion to: (1) designate US Tire Recycling as the county disposal facility <br />for used/scrap tires; (2) approve the 3-year contract between Cabarrus <br />County and US Tire Recycling for $435,000 (subject to approval of the <br />budgets for FY 2011, 2012 and 2013); and (3) authorize the County <br />Manager to execute the contract on behalf of the County; subject to <br />review and/or revisions by the County Attorney. <br />EXPECTED LENGTH OF PRESENTATION: <br />SUBMITTED BY: <br />Rick Payne,Solid Waste Manager <br />Kevin Grant - Sustainability Manager <br />F-10 Page 132 <br />
