CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />SEPTEMBER 20, 2010 <br />6:30 P.M. <br />AGENDA CATEGORY: <br />Appointments to Boards and Committees <br />SUBJECT: <br />Appointments — Cabarrus County Tourism Authority <br />BRIEF SUMMARY: <br />The ratification of Senate Bill 1357 calls for expansion of the Cabarrus <br />County Tourism Authority Board of Directors. This bill also dedicates <br />seats within the 3 organizations represented on the Tourism Authority <br />Board. In order to meet the new legislation, the County needs to appoint a <br />hotelier. The Tourism Authority Board is recommending a transfer of <br />Noelle Rhodes Scott, County seat # 7, to the Tourism Authority seat # 12, <br />expiring on June 30, 2013. This transfer will open a County seat and <br />enable the County to appoint a hotelier to meet the new legislation. The <br />Tourism Authority is submitting a recommendation of Vinay Patel for <br />County seat #7, to complete an unexpired term ending June 30, <br />2013. Further, an exception to the Appointment Policy (residency <br />provision) is requested for Mr. Patel. <br />Recommended appointments for seats 10 and 11 will be submitted for the <br />Board's consideration in October. <br />REQUESTED ACTION: <br />Consider a motion to transfer Noelle Scott, Seat No. 7, to Seat No. <br />12 (Tourism At- Large) as requested by the Tourism Authority for a term <br />ending June 30, 2013. (No change in term length.) <br />Consider a motion to appoint Vinay Patel (County - Hotelier) to Seat No. 7 <br />to complete an unexpired term ending June 30, 2013, as recommended <br />by the Tourism Authority.
