CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />OCTOBER 18, 2010 <br />6:30 P.M. <br />AGENDA CATEGORY: <br />Consent Agenda <br />SUBJECT: <br />Library- Create New Positions for Smart Start Family Literacy Grant <br />Program <br />BRIEF SUMMARY: <br />A grant of $65,000 was awarded to the Cabarrus County Public Library <br />from the Cabarrus Partnership for Children in order to create a Smart <br />Start Family Literacy Program. The program is designed to increase the <br />frequency with which parents engage in literacy activities with children, <br />age birth to five. The program will be conducted for parents in both <br />English and Spanish. <br />The new positions requested are one full -time Family Literacy Coordinator <br />and one part -time (19 hours per week) Family Literacy Assistant. These <br />positions are completely funded by the Cabarrus Partnership for Children <br />grant and will end on or before June 30, 2011 unless the grant is renewed <br />by the Partnership. <br />REQUESTED ACTION: <br />Motion to approve the full -time Family Literacy Coordinator and the part - <br />time Family Literacy Assistant positions. <br />EXPECTED LENGTH OF PRESENTATION: <br />SUBMITTED BY: <br />Dana Eure, Library Director <br />F -13 Page 343 <br />
