CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARDS, COMMITTEES, COMMISSIONS AND AUTHORITIES <br />The Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners makes appointments to a number of boards, <br />committees, commissions and authorities. All citizens of Cabarrus County are encouraged to <br />volunteer to serve on these boards /committees. To obtain an application for appointment or for <br />more information, please contact Kay Honeycutt, Clerk to the Board, at the Governmental <br />Center, 65 Church Street, SE, Concord, or call (704) 920 -2109. The application may also be <br />downloaded from the County's website at .www.cabarruscounty.us . <br />Applications are needed for the following boards /committees: <br />ADULT CARE HOME COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE <br />This committee seeks to maintain the intent of the Adult Care Home Residents Bill of <br />Rights and to promote community involvement with the homes (homes for the aged, <br />family care homes and homes for developmentally disabled adults). Members cannot be <br />employed by an adult care home nor have any financial interest, directly or indirectly, in <br />an adult care home. Immediate family of an adult care home resident in Cabarrus <br />County cannot serve on the committee. Initial appointment is for a term of one year with <br />successive appointments of three -year terms. <br />ANIMAL PRESERVATION & PROTECTION ADVISORY COMMITTEE <br />The committee's purposes are outlined as follows: (1) Review current operations of <br />Cabarrus County Animal Control; (2) Provide educational materials in several languages <br />to the Cabarrus County residents on Spay /Neuter, proper feeding, housing and <br />healthcare for pets; (3) Establish a protocol for the availability for low cost spaying and <br />neutering of pets belonging to indigent residents of Cabarrus County. Members serve <br />two -year terms. <br />CABARRUS COUNTY PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION <br />This commission serves a key role in shaping the future development of the county as it <br />reviews subdivisions, assists in area plans, and makes land use decisions, some of <br />which are forwarded to the Board of Commissioners. The commission also serves as the <br />Board of Adjustment that hears and decides appeals of decisions by the Zoning <br />Enforcement Officer, and grants special use permits /variances. Members include a <br />representative from each of the 7 planning areas (Concord, Midland, Central, Eastern, <br />Harrisburg, Kannapolis and Northwest Cabarrus), 2 at -large representatives and 3 <br />Alternate members. Appointments are for terms of three years. <br />CONCORD PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION <br />The Commission guides, reviews and regulates land developments within and around the <br />boundaries of the City of Concord.
