El
Cabarrus
v Schools
Date: October 21, 2010
4401 Old Ahpod Road
YO Box 388
Concord, NC 28026.0388
(704) 786 -6191
(704) 786 -6141 (fax)
To: Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners
From: Kelly H. Kluttz, Finance Officer, Cabarrus County Schools
Re: A.T. Allen Elementary School Replacement
On September 20, 2010 the Cabarrus County School Board approved a change request
for additional work that needed to be done to provide a variety of items deemed
necessary to meet this school's operational needs. (Please see the attached list of
additional work items.)
In order to accomplish this work, and because of a lack of sufficient funds in the
construction line of the project, a total of $94,734.00 will need to be transferred from the
project's "architect fee" line to the "construction" line. Currently there is approximately
$133,600.00 in the architect fee line.
The reason there are additional funds of this magnitude still remaining in the architect
fee line is that the project took two months less than expected to complete and,
therefore, not as much architectural construction observation was required. The school
district was able to get the contractors to agree to complete their work using the original
substantial completion date, as established in the bidding documents, even though the
project was not able to begin for almost two months after bidding due to the unfavorable
bond market conditions. Hence, we ultimately did not use all the funds allocated for the
architect on the project.
We met with Mike Downs and Susan Fearrington on September 20, 2010 to review
each of the items being requested and they both agreed that we should bring this
request forward for your approval. Please note that the project is still on budget and no
contingency funds are being requested at this time. This request is strictly to move
funds within the existing project budget lines.
Respectfully submitted,
J
K II K ttz, CP
Director of Finance
C en Witke, AIA
Director of Construction
Attachment number 1
Page 76
F -5
