CABARRUS COUNTY <br />~•- ~m ~ r ~ <br />~' `~~ BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />APRIL 20, 2009 <br />6:30 P.M. <br />AGENDA CATEGORY: <br />Recognitions and Presentations <br />SUBJECT: <br />Proclamation Recognizing North Carolina 4-H's 100th Anniversary <br />BRIEF SUMMARY: <br />In 2009, N.C. 4-H Youth Development will celebrate its centennial as <br />North Carolina's premier youth development organization. Reflecting on <br />its historic vision, 4-H is commemorating this event through a variety of <br />local initiatives that bring together our state's youth, youth leaders, <br />parents, volunteers, elected officials, and communities to create new and <br />innovative 21st century youth development strategies for the future. Since <br />1909, North Carolina's youth have been given opportunities to become <br />positive, productive, contributing citizens in their communities through the <br />largest youth organization in the world known as 4-H. North Carolina 4-H <br />is the K-12 educational outreach program of NC State University and NC <br />A&T State University and is part of the National 4-H organization. More <br />than 208,000 North Carolina youth, along with more than 20,000 <br />volunteers will celebrate the N.C. 4-H Centennial Anniversary. <br />As we look to the future, we see 4-H as an organization that seeks to <br />provide individualism to North Carolina's youth as well as provide <br />educational programs that teach life skills. N.C. 4-H programs focus on <br />the areas of workforce development and entrepreneurship, science, <br />technology, engineering and math, healthy lifestyles, citizenship and <br />leadership. <br />REQUESTED ACTION: <br />Motion to adopt proclamation. <br />EXPECTED LENGTH OF PRESENTATION: <br />5 Minutes <br />Page 38 of 320 <br />C-1 <br />
