As provided in the Notice of Public <br />Meeting, a public meeting was held on Monday, March 23, 2009 from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm in <br />the Conunissioners Meeting Roorn at the Cabarrus County Government Center in Concord, <br />North Carolina. In addition to the Notice of Public Meeting, a News Release was forwarded <br />to the Charlotte Observer, Independent Tribune, Kannapolis Citizen, and Salisbury Post as <br />well as several local radio and television stations. The purpose of the meeting was to review <br />the results of the corrective measures assessment and receive public comment prior to the <br />selection of remedy. No public comments were received during this process. <br />As discussed in the approved Assessment of Corrective Measures Report, Monitored Natural <br />Attenuation (MNA) and Institutional Controls and Landfill Gas Recovery coupled with in <br />situ remediation by enhanced bio-augmentation is the pxeferred remedial selection due to <br />ease of implementation, reliability, safety, exposure control, implementation cost, and ability <br />to protect human health and the environment and attain applicable groundwater protection <br />standards. As a contingency plan, the recommended alternative would be groundwater <br />extraction. <br />A Groundwater Corrective Action Permit Modification Application will be completed and <br />submitted to the Solid Waste Section within 2 weeks. Following Solid Waste Section approval <br />of the selected remedy, CDM, on behalf of Cabarrus County will submit a Corrective Action <br />Plan in accordance with the requirements provided in Rules .1635 and .1636.
