Cabarrus County Public Library
27 Union St., North, Concord, NC 28025
June 18, 2009
Mr. Jay White, Chairman
Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners
P.O. Box 707
Concord, NC 28026-0707
Dear Chairman White;
Please be advised that the terms of two members of the Cabarrus County Library Board of
Trustees, Rev. John Bigelow of Mt. Pleasant and Karan Whitley of Kannapolis will expire on July 31,
2009.
Rev. Bigelow has served one full term on this board and has indicated that he wishes to be
considered for reappointment. Rev. Bigelow has been an enthusiastic and faithful member of the board.
As a Library Trustee, he lives in and represents Mt. Pleasant and eastern Cabarrus County. He also has
been a member of the Mt. Pleasant Library Friends, anon-profit community group that provides
monetary and volunteer support to the Library. Kate Moore, the manager of the Mt. Pleasant Library,
supports his re-appointment.
Mrs. Whitley has served two terms on the Board and is not eligible for reappointment. As one of
the two Trustees representing the Kannapolis and the northern Cabarrus area, Mrs. Whitley has done an
outstanding job and I applaud her support of the Library and her service to Cabarrus County.
Mrs. Brenda B. Trott, a resident of Kannapolis, has requested that she be considered for
appointment to the Board of Trustees. Her application for appointment is attached. Mrs. Trott is a
retired elementary teacher and media specialist. She was very active in the Friends of the Kannapolis
Board during the time when the Kannapolis Library was built and she subsequently served as President
of the Friends. She continues to be a regular library patron and a supporter of cultural activities in the
Kannapolis area. Her application is also strongly supported by Terry Prather, Kannapolis Library
manager. As the library board of trustees has always sought to have all geographic areas of the County
represented, I do support Mrs. Trott's application to serve as the Trustee representing northern Cabarrus
County.
Therefore, on behalf of the Library Board of Trustees, I respectfully request that the Board of
Commissioners consider the appointment of Brenda B. Trott and the re-appointment of Rev. John
Bigelow to serve three year term as Library Trustees. Their term would commence on August 1, 2009
and conclude on July 31, 2012. I also request that this matter be considered at the next regularly
scheduled meeting of the Board of Commissioners.
Sincerely,
c
Thomas W. Dillard, Jr.
Library Director
Cabarrus County Public Library, 27 Union St. North, Concord, NC 28025
Phone: (704) 920-2050.
