CABARRUS COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONS
REGULAR MEETING
AUGUST 17, 2009
6:30 P.M.
AGENDA CATEGORY:
Consent Agenda
SUBJECT:
Sheriff's Department - 800 MHz Digital Radio Purchase
BRIEF SUMMARY:
The Sheriff's office is requesting to purchase 80 (eighty), digital, 800 MHz
radios in the amounts of (30) mobiles and (50) portables. This purchase
request is already budgeted, but needs board approval due to the amount
of purchase. This radio purchase is consistent with the current digital
migration and interoperability plan for the county. Motorola currently has a
trade-in allowance for the analog radios we are replacing. This trade-in
allowance is $550 per portable and $400 per mobile which is better than a
direct sales rate. This trade-in will save the county $39,500 towards the
purchase of these new digital radios. The total cost with trade-ins for the
80 radio units is $286,947.11.
REQUESTED ACTION:
Motion to purchase of 80 (eighty), 800 Mhz, digital radios on State
Contract from Motorola, and to surplus 80 (eighty), 800 Ms, analog
radios to be used as a trade-in allowance.
EXPECTED LENGTH OF PRESENTATION:
SUBMITTED BY:
Capt Phillip J. Patterson, Sheriff's Department
BUDGET AMENDMENT REQUIRED:
F-11
