NORTH CAROLINA <br />CABARRUS COUNTY RESOLUTION <br />WHEREAS, reading is a joy for all ages which allows young and old to <br />come together in discussion on a variety of topics. <br />WHEREAS, every community has special traits that makes it unique. <br />These traits develop over time and are woven into the fabric of its <br />citizens' daily lives. In many ways, our community defines who we are. <br />WHEREAS, every community comes together through shared history, shared knowledge, <br />and shared experiences. As our community grows and changes, it can become more difficult <br />to maintain and to honor the traits that are unique and special. <br />WHEREAS, One Book One Community is one way to bring together each diverse individual <br />in Cabarrus County to share an experience together -the experience of reading the same <br />novel. This collective experience not only encourages literacy; it also encourages dialogue <br />and the expression of thoughts and ideas among individuals who may not otherwise find a <br />connection. <br />WHEREAS, the Cabarrus County Public Library selected the month of October, 2009 as the <br />One Bool< One Community -Cabarrus Reads event. <br />WHEREAS, the Cabarrus County Public Library has selected On Agate Hill by Lee Smith for <br />this year's One Bool< One Community -Cabarrus Reads event. <br />WHEREAS, the Cabarrus County Public Library in celebration of the One Book One <br />Community event created several ways to come together and participate throughout <br />October by meeting or working with the author, Lee Smith at a Creative Writing Workshop, <br />book discussions, and many other events. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners County declare the month <br />of October, 2009 as One Bool< One Community Month and Saturday, October 24th as Lee <br />Smith day in Cabarrus County and commend its observance to all citizens. <br />ADOPTED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS of Cabarrus County, North Carolina this the <br />21St day of September, 2009. <br />H.
