NC' 2R026.03RR
From: Kelly H. Kluttz, Finance Officer, Cabarrus County Schools
RE: Bus Garage Contingency funds
Cabarrus County Schools would like to purchase two fuel tanks (one 8000 gallon diesel and one
8000 gallon gasoline) located at facilities and operations. Installing the fuel tanks will save CCS
funds by limiting the amount of miles employees drive to refuel, currently located at the bus
facility. In addition it will save the amount of labor it takes to drive to and from the garage. It
will also give us an ample supply of fuel at the bus garage and facilities & operations in case of
an emergency for use by CCS or Cabarrus County Emergency Management Services.
When the bus facility was originally bid, one fuel tank was an alternate but funds were not
available at the time. We are requesting to move $100,000 from contingency to construction to
enable us to purchase the fuel tanks. The monitoring of the fuel tanks will be done at the bus
facility as in the past.
This request is pending approval by the Board of Education on December 14th, 2009. It is also
our recommendation to the Board to return the unspent contingency balance of $223,189 to the
Commission.
Signed:
(~~ ~~~~
~ 1
Kelly Kluttz, CPA
Director of Finance
Attachment number 1
F-4 Page 61
