CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />AGENDA ITEM REQUEST <br />Meeting Date 1/22/08 Agenda Item # <br />SUBJECT: <br />Sheriff Department -Pre-Application for the Gang Violence Prevention Grant - $197,781 <br />BRIEF SUMMARY: <br />The Sheriffs Department, in conjunction with Cabarrus Safe Neighborhoods, has <br />submitted apre-application for a Gang Violence Prevention Grant. The attached memo <br />details the purpose of the grant and funding requests. If approved and awarded the grant, <br />a new position would be created titled Youth Service Specialist. This person would work <br />with agencies and school resource officers to refer youth to the SHIELD program, which <br />identifies youth subject to gang activities and substance abuse.
