CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />AGENDA ITEM REQUEST <br />Meeting Date 1/22/08 Agenda Item # ~-'~j <br />SUBJECT: <br />Independent Contractor versus Employee Job Status <br />BRIEF SUMMARY: <br />During 2007, there have been many discussions and presentations among governmental <br />entities in the area of status of independent contractors versus employees. It has been <br />determined that several independent contractors retained by the County should actually be <br />paid via payroll. (See attached memo for more detail.) The assistance of a tax attorney is <br />requested to review the status of certain classes of contractors. <br />REQUESTED ACTION: (Suggested motion if the Board approves the agenda item as presented) <br />Motion to authorize the addition of the new employee job classifications and applicable <br />positions and for the Finance and Human Resources Departments to convert vendors <br />previously paid via accounts payable to payroll in order to comply with IRS regulations. <br />Attachments ^X Yes ^ No Expected Length of Presentation <br />Submitted By: Pamela S.
