CABARRUS COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS AGENDA ITEM REQUEST Meeting Date 2/18/08 Agenda Item # SUBJECT: Future Government Complex -Cabarrus Avenue (Old Fairgrounds) The new complex is proposed to include space for the Board of Elections, Public Transportation, Veterans Services, EMS Administration and Parks Administration. BRIEF SUMMARY: Currently ADW Architects, Inc is performing a physical inventory of several county buildings to assist with future budgeting of preventive maintenance as well as potential large capital expenditures. In addition, ADW is completing a space needs/staffing study of county departments and providing recommendations on how the county can meet these needs in the future. A basic plan for the proposed "Government Complex" is included within the scope of this study. These findings and recommendations will provide the foundation of the detailed masterplan that is needed to design the site for the future. REQUESTED ACTION: (Suggested motion if the Board approves the agenda item as presented) BOC authorization for staff to solicit Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to complete a detailed "masterplan" for a future goverment complex on the remaining 10+/- acres of county owned property on Cabarrus Avenue at the Old Fairgrounds. The "RFQ" process will take place after the completion of the ADW Space/Staffing Needs Plan has been completed and presented to the staff and BOC.
