CABARRUSCOUNTY
John K. Eller rv Department of Social Services
D¢ector
DATE: 1-29-08
TO: John Day, County Manager
FROM: John Eller, DSS Director
RE: Requested CAP Budget Amendments
Rita C. Williford
Boazd Chair
Due to increased costs in our CAP Choice consumer directed program and medical supplies line items, we
are requesting a budget amendment to fmish out FY08. The increased costs represent Personal Assistant
expenses, as well as corresponding increases in medical supplies and equipment.
Because of this, we are requesting the following increases in the CAP Appropriations and Revenue
budgets:
Tine item Nnmher
Proeram
Amount
00195650 9110 TEMP Contracted Personnel Services $335,808.00
00195650 9479 Communi Alternatives Pro am $26,000.00
Total A ro riations $361,808.00
00165650 6616 Communi Alternative Pro am Revenues $361,808.00
Total Revenues $361,808.00
For those eligible, this program enhances what our traditional CAP program does. Since it is consumer
directed, and not DSS directed, the client or consumer is the employer, and can hire their own personal
assistants to provide care for them in the home. These personal assistants, since they aze employed by the
consumer, can provide personal care tasks that ordinarily would not be permitted by in-home aides hired
by the County. The provision of these enhanced services, in many cases, prevents or delays more costly
placement in long-term care.
If you need further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you.
7303 S.
