CEDE tioard memtiers are recommended by counties; <br />mumcipa)ities, and others in the region and appointed by:the COG $oard. <br />gESULTS: <br />Since 2005, $3.9 million in grants from the US Department of Commerce, Economic <br />pevelopment Adminishmlion have been awarded to development,projects in rho region: The <br />continuing viability of the CEDCrallows tire: region to maintain eligibility for these grants: <br />In Ju1y2007, we beganwork an website serving the logistics cluster in North and South <br />Carolina. This project grew out of a meeting hold in August 2006 for members of the logistics <br />industry. They noted the need fora "portal" to the region where the many and diverse <br />organizations serving this large industry could exchange information and reach constituents. <br />The website will promote the efficacy aml growth ofthetransporlation/logistics, <br />promote collaboration among tnembers of the cluster, and encourage discussionof <br />innovative pPOducts to enaures~urity lathe industry» <br />As part Of the implementation plan far advanced manufacturing, we have begun mapping the <br />automotive supply chain in the region. y supply chain, we mean the supplier networks,ahe. <br />production enterprises and the distribution systems thatencompass product development, <br />sourcing, production, logistics, and delivery ofproducts used ihthe automotive, motoraports <br />ahd transportation industries a the region.. Existing date listed 450 compan)es, ow• research to <br />dote shows an incredtltle 925 companies partisipating in this industry; The goal is to sptli <br />afeas where missinglndustries might beresruited to(he region and to let existing <br />Manufacturers buy locally ptotluced materials. <br />Itt September 2007,•the CEDC sponsored the regional Sumnnt onOrowth. Over200 attendees <br />learned about predicted population and employment growth in fhe-region and beard a rousing: <br />speech from Mr, David Murdock, the founder of the North Carolina Research Campus and die <br />owner pf Dole Fcods. <br />Technical workshopscontinueto be offered in the region to develop-technical'skihs for local <br />s(affinterested in promoting developmen(.
