4425 Old Airport Road (704) 262-6130
Concord, NC 28026.0388 (704) 262-6211 Fax
Facilities & Operations Department
Joe Sides, Director
September 16, 2008
To: Pam Dubois, Finance Director Cabarrus County
From: Joe Sides, Director of Facilities & Operations
Re: Kannapolis Intermediate/Roofing
We have broken the Kannapolis Intermediate roofing project into three different
areas and they are as follows: 1) gymnasium 27,000 square feet 2) classroom area
60,500 square feet 3) office and cafeteria area 41,200 square feet.
Standing Seam Metal
1) Gymnasium: $226,815.00
2) Classroom: 530,000.00
3) Office/cafeteria: 360,500.00
Total: $1,117,315.00
Note: Standing seam 20 year product and weather tight warranty
Duro-Last Product
1) Gymnasium: $172,325.00
Z) Classroom: 328,675.00
3) Office/cafeteria: 225,420.00
Total: $726,420.00
Note: Duro-Last 15 year on roofing and contents
Summary: The standing seam contractor stated, "That if the other areas (classrooms
and office/cafeteria) where started at one time that there will be some cost savings
because of ordering all the material for the project". I feel that if the standing seam
metal is used and the contractor has success on the gymnasium, we will be able to
negotiate for better pricing on the additional areas. The roof at Kannapolis
Intermediate is on a 6/12 pitch which means in construction terms that one can walk
on it but needs to be cautious. The slope of the roof does concern me with the Duro-
Last product since it has not been tested but for only a few months in the United
States and was only installed on smaller projects.
If any other questions, please advise.
Item# 27
Attachment number 3
