CABARRUSCOUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, farming and agriculture remain important parts of our county's economy, <br />providing jobs and livelihood for our citizens and families, as well as embodying the <br />values of hard work, faith, and love of family; and <br />WHEREAS, making a living off the land exposes agricultural workers to many potential <br />dangers, such as extreme weather conditions, fertilizers and chemicals, and heavy <br />machinery; and <br />WHEREAS, in spite of the hazards and risks to life and property, across the United <br />States and in our community, farming families and enterprises continue to work with <br />dedication, day after day, and year after year, to insure America is kept fed; and <br />WHEREAS, every year, thousands of agricultural workers, farm employees, and family <br />members are injured, maimed, or killed in accidents involving agricultural operations, <br />making it one of the most dangerous occupations in our nation; and, <br />WHEREAS, farm operators, employees, and family members are encouraged to: <br />- Practice and promote safe work habits and conditions on farms and ranches. <br />- Take steps to identify these hazards and instructing family members in safe <br />practices will help save lives and prevent injuries. <br />- Avoid accidents and protect lives by staying informed, being proactive, and <br />remaining vigilant. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, that the Board of Commissioners of <br />Cabarrus County, North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September 21-27, 2008 as <br />`National Farm Safety and Health Week' in Cabarrus County and call upon those <br />agencies, organizations and businesses that serve our farm families and enterprises to <br />strengthen their commitment to promote farm safety and health programs. <br />This the 22°d day of September, 2008. <br />H.
